Bernard Aubertin is well known for his monochrome works. For the artist, the red in his works represents fire and blood. His works have an impersonal and anonymous character. He also has work that arises from so-called fire events with thousands of matches that are set on fire. Four years after ZERO was founded by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene in Düsseldorf, he became a member of this experimental group. In doing so, Aubertin reacted against Art Informel Neo-Expressionism. He was very interested in creating a new art with international roots and collaborations that had to materialize new concepts and ideas. He lived and worked first in France and then in Germany.
